Apple Remote - More than iTunes

How do I get my Apple Remote to work with programs other than iTunes in Windows Vista?
I've got Windows Vista running via Boot Camp on a Macbook Pro. Until recently I was able to use this remote with most Windows apps that accepted input via IR remote. In Windows Media Player, for example, I could use it to pause/play, skip tracks, etc.
Now, however, when I try and use the remote with another program, it'll open iTunes instead. Previously only the "menu" button would force iTunes to open.
I tried unpairing the remote, but that didn't fix anything.

The other thing you might want to try is looking in the iTunes Preferences and seeing if there is some option that has iTunes locked onto the remote somehow.
