Why does my Mozilla mail have 'password save' issues?

I tried to research this in ">Mozilla ">groups and ">Google groups, but there's a lot of denial confusion about, it seems.

Issue 1: I cannot find where to add my password to be saved. Password Manager allows you to delete a password, to display saved p/ws, and display never saved p/ws. It does not allow me to add a p/w.

Issue 2: This only began to be an irritant last week. Till then, I never needed to put in my p/w to my incoming mail server [I reckon I must have done one time, then it was saved]. Why did Moz mail unsave it? Why does the p/w dialogue box not ask me if I want to save it again?

I like security - but I want Mozilla to 'do what it says on the tin' - save the p/ws that I tell it to!

Ggrrrr....

Well i mashed up the links, but is that why there's no response, or is it 'cos I have a unique problem? Hmm...

dash, the password is only saved when you enter it, to log into a site. It cannot be displayed for obvious security reasons (although if someone is far enough in to do that, they can do much worse). As for missing passwords, I find that Moz (especially prior to 1.1) has problems with both cookies and passwords. It loses the former on a regular basis, in my experience, and the latter much less often. (Actually, it's quite a while since it's lost my MeFi cookie, but I regularly have to re-log-in to newspaper sites. The password storage saves me in those circumstances, but it's still a hassle.) Also, be sure that you have the same settings for that mail server; passwords are stored by subdomain or IP address, thus mail.example.com is stored separately from example.com. Finally, if the mail server is unavailable during a session for some reason, Mozilla has some iteration it goes through involving the password. If you close the session and try again, you may be able to get in without a hitch. I don't find the UI enlightening in this process, but I'm used to it by now.

Thanks dhartung. I fully understand what you are saying but sadly, it doesnt provide a solution.

I'm going to delete the account and restart, then add same. See if that works. Check back later.
