Help find the movie: The running amok of Mr. ____ ?

I am looking for a movie that might have had the title of "The Running Amok of Mr. (insert something here)". An old professor of mine once said it was his favorite movie, and it sounded totally awesome.

Basically, the best I can remember of the description, is the first hour of the movie is just a boring, hour long showing of some random man's life, complete with every minute detail. This goes on for a long time, and then in the last ten minuets of the movie or so our protagonist goes completely nuts, just totally insane. I think this is probably a really old movie.

Thats all I can remember about it. Sound familiar to anyone?
