How do I use Gmail's new IMAP with my existing Exchange e-mail?

I work for a small business that uses a hosted Exchange account for e-mail (Intermedia is the host). I use Outlook 2007 to send/receive e-mail.

I also use Google's gmail service for my personal e-mail.

I'd like to be able to integrate the two services and use Outlook as the home base. Here are my questions:

* Can I access Gmail from Outlook using IMAP?

* Do I have to do anything special to send/receive my e-mail from the hosted Exchange account on Intermedia?

* Is there a way to send e-mail from Outlook 2007 so that it still includes the correct "From:" address? In other words, work e-mail still reads as being from "me@workemail.com" and personal e-mail still reads as being from "me@gmail.com".

Links to proper tutorials would be definitely helpful if you have them. Thanks!

Here is the configuration guide for Gmail IMAP. Are you already configured for the Exchange server in Outlook 2007? If so, just add the Gmail account to Outlook and when you compose messages, there will be a little drop down menu under the "Send" button that lets you select which account the e-mail should be sent through.

If you click "Help" or hit the F1 key in Outlook, you will be able to type the word "imap" and read about the feature as provided.

You dont want to run gmail through exchange (if thats even possible) you want to configure outlook (the client) to connect to gmails IMAP (the server).

It sounds like you are asking to do

gmail > exchange > outlook

when what you really want is

gmail > outlook

Essentially, you create a new mail account in outlook and feed it your gmail settings. You'll then have a second set of folders for your gmail stuff.

Yeah, like damn dirty ape said, you just need to add a second email account to Outlook.

It's easy enough. In Outlook, click Tools > E-mail Accounts. Click Add a new e-mail account, then choose IMAP. Supply the information per Gmail's config guide (posted earlier), and you're in.

Oh, just realized you said Outlook 2007. Not sure if there's a Tools menu there like former Outlook versions, but you should be able to find the equivalent. Worst case, shut down Outlook and go to Control Panel > Mail > Email Accounts and set it up that way.

Im 99% certain you can. Select all the items in the pst and drag it to the imap folder. You might have to do subfolders individually.
