How to transfer large files from my camera?

My PC refuses to transfer several large (~775MB) movie files from my Canon PowerShot SD1000 to my computer. How can I retrieve them?

I usually have no problem transferring photos or short videos from my camera to PC. I use a mini-USB and transfer using Windows Explorer, rather than the Canon software that came with the camera. I also have a SanDisk 2.0 MB SD Card, if that helps.

Any ideas on how to get these files? I looked through all the digital+camera AskMe's and Google, but didn't find anything helpful. Thank you!

Oh, I forgot to mention: whenever I drag and drop one of the movie files from the camera to my computer, it will pop up with a "Copying..." notice which will remain for awhile without any progress made on the progress bar. After a minute or two it will stop, leaving a 0 MB file on the computer, wherever I was trying to copy to.

Do you mean 2.0GB SD card?

Have you tried using a USB SD reader? That might be more reliable than thru the camera.

You could try Teracopy - I've found it copies some pretty uncopiable stuff.

If we are recommending good copy programs, then I suggest unstoppable copier. It gets a lot of mention around here because it's a good program.

I ran into this exact problem with my new SD1000 the day before yesterday. I was able to get the AVI off the SD card by using the Scanner and Camera Wizard (Start/Programs/Accessories/Scanner and Camera Wizard).

I had to let it sit for a very long time, but eventually, the file did copy across.

I had the same problem with my SD800 IS, and was finally able to get it to work with Canon's CameraWindow 4.6. You could also try GetCanon!
