Not the King Biscuit Flour Hour...

I have a vague memory of some show airing during the early 1980s that I think was sponsored by Robin Hood Flour or maybe King Arthur Flour. I have little to no recollection of what happened on the show (some sort of baking challenge for kids maybe?) but I know that I would watch it around lunchtime when I had half-days of kindergarten. It could have been either a PBS or CBC show as we got CKWS out of Kingston, Ont. in my village in Upstate NY. Robin Hood Flour sounds right, so I'm leaning toward it being a Canadian show. Does this ring any bells with anyone?

King Vitamin, perhaps? I think remember that rightly.

Best answer: Just Like Mom!

I loved that show!

Best answer: OMG Just Like Mom! Kind of a dumb (and somewhat sexist) premise, but we were fans as kids. The best part was the Bake Off where they had to bake a batch of cookies and they'd have all this crazy shit to dump in there like candy and raisins and chocolate and jello powder, and then the moms had to guess which cookie was the one their kids made.

Response by poster: That sounds about right... I'm not sure why the Robin Hood flour sponsorship is the only thing I remember, but that description definitely matches the game show type of environment I vaguely recall. THANKS!

Response by poster: And armed with this information, I found some screencaps on this page.

I found some screencaps on this page.

They need to update that page -- Uncle Bobby is dead.

My ex-boyfriend was on Just Like Mom! I used to love that show. It's such a relic of its time -- there's no way in hell a show like that would happen now, even here in Canada.

It might have been put together by CFTO, but it aired across Canada, AFAIK. We got it in BC. I could never figure out why some smart kid wouldn't just say, "Mom, I'll make a cookie of nothing but chocolate and ketchup. Just pick that one."

I actually went to a taping of Just Like Mom! when I was about 11, because one of my fellow girl guides was going on it. In retrospect, the Robin Hood flour connection (which was promoted heavily on the show) was probably why the bake-off tended to be flour-based. It was definitely taped in Toronto (near the 401) when I went.

acoutu, I seem to recall that in later years they took steps apparently intended to avoid cheating, including moving away from multiple choice questions and by varying the bake-off ingredients.

OMG flashback.

Wow. Thanks for reminding me about that.

The Robin Hood connection probably stands out in your mind because its logo was prominently displayed in the middle of the wheel. (It's hard to see in the screencap, because Fergie's standing in front of it, but that's the Dominion logo. They sponsored about half the show's run, Robin Hood the other half. If I recall.)
