Help Me Find My Perfect Journal, Please

Howdy Hive-
Back in the 80's I used to write in journals that were made of recycled paper. I'm trying to locate them (or something similar) again, and having no luck. The paper was gray, a bit rough & raggedy, and very, very soft. It was bound as a hardcover book, with a simple stamp as a decoration (one said 'art', another said 'dream'). The only drawback was that the paper absorbed a lot of ink, so it was necessary to write in ballpoint pen (or risk draining a lot of sharpie markers). Even if it's not the exact same journal, I would love your suggestions for something similar. I haven't found another blank book yet that is as satisfying.
Thanks in advance, y'all!
Response by poster: Thanks for your response! Archival isn't really an issue - I got rid of all of my old journals many years ago. I forgot about good old newsprint. I may have a bookbinding friend of mine make up a journal for a test drive. I'll continue searching...

Newsprint has a similar smooth texture and is pretty cheap. Unfortunately, it isn't archival and will crumble in about 10 years.
