YOUNG HEARTS BE FREE TONIGHT

haloweenfilter: I think that I am going to be Rod Stewart from the "Young Turks" video, and seeing as how the version of the music video on youtube is such poor quality, I thought that I would check here to see if anyone could help me figure out exactly what he was wearing.

So far what I think he has on is as follows:
Leather(?) blazer with giant '80s shoulder pads
Low-cut sleeveless white T-shirt
Tight jeans(?)
White shoes
Ribbon around his waist?
A scarf or bandanna around his neck?
- This is the one I am having the most trouble with, is it leopard print? is it a scarf? a ribbon? a bandanna?
I know that this is kind of a ridiculous question, but I hoped that maybe someone here might have some Rod Stewart knowledge.

Dark navy cotton blazer

Around his neck seems to be a neckerchief - like a handkerchief tied around the neck. I'm basing it on what the guitarist is wearing at 2:17 in the video. Pattern is pretty hard to figure out - dark paisley pattern maybe?

At 4:03 you can see the excess from the neckerchief tied off to the right side of his neck.

Around his waist appears to be a wide belt that's buckled over the untucked white shirt.

junesix,
I think you're probably right about it being paisley. I thought it was a cotton blazer at first, but then the shininess threw me off later. Would a cotton blazer look that shiny under the right light? [OP does not where blazers more than once a year, if that often]

Sort of off course here ... I wish people would put a date on YouTube videos. It would help those of us who were a bit hazy during the 80's or the 70's or whenever.

Well the good thing about Halloween costumes is that sometimes you don't have to be super literal, sometimes you can even change a few details and improve on the caricature of it. Anyhow, truth is... if you carry a microphone with you and bounce enough, the details won't matter as much.

• I'm thinking it looks like a leather blazer, but that's expensive to buy. So I think you could get away with getting a form-fitting black or dark blue cotton or satin blazer at a thrift store.... even a velvet one would be ok. JUST ROLL UP THE SLEEVES AND NEVER BUTTON THE COAT. EVER. And make sure it has something of an 80s-sized collar and two sets of shoulderpads underneath.

• You'll probably have to cut out the collar of a white t-shirt and go for the home-made Flashdance look for that neckline. Doubt you'll find men's shirts cut that low.

• For the scarf, you can probably also use an animal print too I'd think... he liked animal prints so it could probably work. And a silk or satin scarf would probably be ok.

• Super tight jeans, either black or like the ones in the "80s-sized" link above.

• Use an oversized black leather women's belt over the t-shirt, across your hips. He would've.

• White shoes. They could be dress shoes if you can find some used, 'cuz Rod likes dress shoes. But you could probably get away with white Chuck Taylor's too. I've seen him in similar sneakers.

• You also might add a fake "Maggie May" tattoo just for an extra touch.

miss lynnster, you just completely validated my choice to wear white chucks and a hand cut shirt instead of spending money. For that, I thank you. I have my share of super tight jeans, so I'll just need to head to a good vintage store and get a neckerchief and a blazer. Oh, and a belt. And some feathered hair.
