Nothing is real... Make a wish...

Name That Song: A friend of mine first heard this song 31 years ago when he was in Goa, India, but he says that his location isn't siginificant to the question because he's sure it's an American or British pop song. The only lyrics he remembers are as follows:

walking along the beach...at low tide
found a bottle floating, a message stuck inside
open the bottle, the message read like this
nothing is real...make a wish...

All of my Googling of the various phrases has failed to find anything that fits. Does anybody recognize this song?

Was it a group? Male singer? Female singer?

He said it was a male singer, but not sure if it was a group or solo.

Nils Erikson was certainly a toddler 31 years ago, so it's probably not this song...
