Help me keep my kids busy

I will be spending the day in White Plains, New York, and I'm looking for some activities for my 3&4 year old kids. Anyone know of an online resource that could help, or perhaps familiar with the area?

The Galleria Mall, tons of great playgrounds. I'm sure you'll get better answers. Have fun.

Greenburgh Nature Center, Central Avenue, Scarsdale, NY, is near White Plains.

Best answer: The Galleria, no offense to JimN2TAW, is not really a safe place and has not been one for quite a few years.

Are you looking for places where you can drop your kids off (day care-type) or places where you and your kids can spend time together? Does it have to be in White Plains proper? Do you have a car?

There is a giant multiplex in the middle of downtown WP (end of Mamaroneck Avenue). Also in that building are a Barnes and Noble with full children's section -- they often have events, btw, as well as a few other stores (Target, Circuit City, Filene's Basement).

There is a Toys R Us a few blocks down, along with a Borders bookstore, in a smaller building. If heading toward City Center on Mamaroneck Ave., turn right on Maple and you'll see the building to your left.

Not very much to do in WP other than shop. There's also The Westchester, which is a bit ritzy and obnoxious but does have a Build-A-Bear workshop.

Other things:
Check out the White Plains Public Library, downtown and walking distance from the train, which holds interactive storytimes and tons of other children's activities. 914-422-1476.

There may be events at the Cranberry Lake Preserve in North White Plains. 914-428-1005.

Also take a look at the Journal News calendar page, which allows you to search by category, including children's entertainment.

Heh, I haven't been in the Galleria for these five years now, is it really unsafe these days? Back then there had been that random shooting in the parking lot, but other than that it was fine for safety, just not that classy. Actually only ever had any trouble at the Westchester, where some dumbass kids decided they were going to make a tough show of trying to mug me, and I just walked away.

In any case, by my memory there wasn't much for 3/4 year olds in the Galleria anyway.

Er, sorry, don't go to the Galleria. But do check out Greenburgh Nature Center.
