"The Girl in the Turquiose Bikini"

I'm reading "The Girl in the Turquoise Bikini" (1961) and I'm puzzled by a reference to "organizing a 'Paul Jones,' " which seems to be some kind of discussion group or meeting, for example between social or ethnic groups.

Flaky as it sounds from its title, this book was made into the movie "How Sweet it Is" (1968) with James Garner and Debby Reynolds, and seems to have been well-received, or at least good enough for the 60's. The author, Muriel Resnik, had some cred as a playwright, screenwriter, and author of other novels.

Any idea what's a "Paul Jones" and why we don't have them anymore?

Best answer: How about this Paula Jones? It's a mixer dance.

Response by poster: Man, that's it! How did you do that? I Googled "Paul Jones" but was swamped by data on the naval officer and the musician. Had no idea it was a dance. Thanks!
