First Time Buyer stats

How many first time buyers of real estate are there in the G8 countries?

Ideally, I would like annual trends, similar to those shown in the comprehensive UK statistics from the Council of Mortgage Lenders.

I have trawled the USA-specific National Association of Realtors but found little to help there.

Well, in Canada, the group to go to would be CHMC-SCHL. This article references CHMC market reports and says that 40% of homes bought in 2006 were new home buyers and that it is projected to be 50% in 2007. In Canada, because we have such high immigration every year there is a constant supply of new families needing homes. CHMC provides insurance so that people that can only afford 5% down payment can get into a home.
