Would you be shocked if I changed into something more comfortable?

Where in San Francisco can I get my hair set to look like a 1930s movie star? Any other tips on a 1930s boudoir look would be appreciated, too.

I'm attending a costume where the directive was to embody the 1930s. I'm not too excited about enacting a depression-era housewife so I decided to go to the opposite extreme: Jean Harlow. I have mid-length blonde hair and I'd like to get it styled and set in the sort of wavy glam style that she had. Or barring that, I'd go for a Veronica Lake look, even though that's not quite the right era. There's no way I can do this myself so are there any salons that can do old-fashioned set and style hair-dos?

I already have a great silk nightgown and am making a pair of marabou slippers. I need to find a good bed jacket or robe and then any and all other accessories (long pearl strands? a big old white mink stole?). Any other thought are appreciated.

I don't have a recommendation for you, but you might try going to one of the vintage shops and asking if they know anyone who does hair. Guys and Dolls in Noe Valley or La Rosa on Haight both are pretty into the whole vintage look. There's also the Art Deco Society of California... You could drop them a line and see if they have any ideas. They do a lot of events in period clothes/hair, so they must know people who do hair. Or you could ask whoever usually does your hair if she/he does fingerwaves. Sorry I can't give you a straight answer, I always just fake it on my own!

I would imagine any reputable hairstylist would know what to do if you showed them a picture... maybe set up an appointment to discuss prior to the actual cut.

Response by poster: Okay so that didn't give a whole lot to go on. I had called my usual stylist but didn't hear from him until today and apparently has done exactly this style before so I'm just gonna go back to him for a styling. I also thought about just getting a wig but I was afraid that would look ridiculous so I'd much rather use my own hair!
