Musicians: can you suggest any good programs to set up backing tracks on your computer to practice over? Along the lines of
Groove Blender, but less limited. A programmable
Jamie Aebersold CD, if you will. Ideally, of course, free and downloadable. Extra points for groovy beats.

Both will allow you to put together rhythm and instrumental loops (which can these days be bolstered by new loops distributed by dozens of different sites across the web) and to adjust the key or tempo instantly. The sounds you use are dependent upon the loops you look for - there are jazzy loops out there.
Acid is more suited to clever audio editing (you could insert a prerecorded song of your choice and move it to any pitch or tempo you choose) while Garageband has a great collection of loops or sounds to play with. Neither is free but both are worth the money.
