Will The Sims 2 run .iso and retail expansions together?

A question for Sims 2 players.

I know The Sims can be temperamental. If I have expansions installed from .iso files, and I install a retail copy of the latest one on top of them, will it throw a wrench into the works? Or can they peacefully co-exist?

They should be all right. The application doesn't really know the difference between the files from an ISO and the files from a CD, since the ISO is an image of a CD and the files are just files after all. A retail copy isn't going to poison your install. This knowledge is from pretty old warezing experience, though, so YMMV. :)

I did the same with Sims 1 and I had no problems.

They'll work together fine, but ironically, the retail versions may install spyware, rootkits, or dialers that compromise the safety and speed of your computer. Pirated games are safer than the "real" thing nowadays.

The only time I've seen something like this be a problem is if you have replaced the original .exe ("Sims2.exe" or whatever plays the game) with a cracked one. And in that case you should be able to put the original .exe back in place, install the expansion, and then replace it again.

Sims 2 doesn't.

Also, you always use the latest expansion pack to launch the game.

I don't think pirated versions of The Sims 2 would work because you need to have a keycode and how would you get that without looking at the CD Case, manual, or box, that you only get if you buy the game?
