How high are UMass students?

How many stories/floors does UMass Amherst's W.E.B. Du Bois Library have? Some sources say 26, some 28. Any alums or students out there who can tell me from personal experience which is the right number?

Best answer: The floor directory has 26 floors listed. I know you asked for personal accounts but the question peeked my interest (and I found references to 28 floors too, perhaps a couple of basement floors?)

In fact they have 27 listed as the Main floor is below the entrance floor according to this

That floor directory is complete for floors that patrons have access to. There's 25 floors from the lobby up, and a rather large basement level below that contains a reference department and a lot of other offices. I'm pretty sure there's no sub-basement, but UMass architecture is full of surprises. No idea if there's anything beyond some utilities about the 25th floor.

There is a basement that houses the Microfiche archives thus reaching the 28 floors (but it's really 26)

On preview what someone who actually knows said :)

Ask a UMass librarian

Response by poster: So looks like 28 floors in total but 26 stories tall would be an accurate description.

Btw, thanks to all answerers. I appreciate it.

And if anyone tells you it's sinking, it's an urban legend!
