traveling to Trebizond?

I'm trying to find an historical novel about a visit to medieval Trebizond that I read years ago. It's in the style of Thomas B. Costain but not by him. I know it's not Rosemary Macauley's The Towers of Trebizond.

Dorothy Dunnett?

Dorothy Dunnett and her Niccolo series looks interesting, and that might be right, but I don't think the book I read years ago was part of a series. I'm guessing instead that cog_nate may have gotten it with The Burnished Blade. The publication date (1950) sounds about right -- I'll try to track it down. Thanks!
