Waterfront cabin in New England that is private but not expensive?

I am expecting a baby in a couple of months and am interested in renting a cabin for next August. I figure we wont travel too far for a year or two and was thinking renting a cabin for a couple weeks before I have to go back to work fulll time might be a good option.
I was hoping for something with a little spot with a private beach so I can wade in with the baby.
Rustic is fine but with all the amenities I don't normally require- running water, fridge, and stove.
I am hoping for something within 2 or 3 hours of worcester, ma.
And- well I'd like to bring my dog too.

Someone suggested Sunset lodge in Maine which didnt look too off from what I was looking for-- but hoping for some other options to compare it to.

The more private feeling the better and no boat action needed-- pond or lake where no motor boats are allowed would be ideal.

Have you looked at VRBO.com? Vacation Rentals by Owner?

I suggest Chebeague Island, Maine. It's on the ocean, and there are many cabins available for monthly rental, some with cars, some without. Try their Rentals Page for some ideas. There are many more island cottages for rent (my next door neighbor is not listed, but he rents his) and if you're interested, I can check out the listings when I'm up there next week (email in profile).

My family stays on the Cape almost every year at the Craigville Conference Center, which has rental cottages similar to what you're describing. A little simpler than Sunset Lodge, and there is no private beach (although as far as views are concerned, you'd be situated between a large pond with swans and an estuary with herons). Craigville Beach is a short walk away, and the water there is nearly as warm as New England gets. Sadly, there aren't great pictures of it online- this is comparable, and close by as well. We always go during the Writer's Conference, because the free lectures are interesting, and sometimes we take classes. If you think you might be interested, I can take pictures- I leave this Friday, finally, after looking forward to it all year.
