Help me find a NOLA dentist!

O brilliant and knowledgable hivemind - I'm looking for a fantastic dentist/oral surgeon in New Orleans.

My hubby cracked a tooth almost in half and we're trying to find a reliable dentist that can pull a tooth, even if it's in multiple pieces, with little or no difficulty. Before Katrina, I had an awesome dentist (even though he was retired). He's in Chicago now, and I need someone who can pull a tooth before you even know it's done.

I found a previous thread (http://ask.metafilter.com/54409/Open-wide-this-wont-hurt-a-bit), and I'm going to make some calls and see what some of those dentists have in the way of available appointments, but I'd still appreciate any other recommendations, especially on the Westbank or in downtown New Orleans. We're paying cash, if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance!

She is fantastic and a complete perfectionist. Very, very good. Two thumbs up, 5 stars would fill/clean my teeth again.

Lawrence Frost

He's in Metairie, but is the best dentist I've ever been to. I can't say enough good things about him.

Do NOT go to Jay Dumas. The concierge at my hotel recommended him when I had a problem with a filling and he treated the wrong tooth. I should have walked out when I noticed the sign forbidding parents to be present while their children were being treated. I was road tripping through LA, MS and AL after my time in NOLA and when the tooth continued to hurt I called a synagogue and asked for a recommendation--that dentist (in AL) was much better.

I am very disheartened that a patient would recklessly slander the name of a good competent Dentist. I am a graduate of Temple University School of Dentistry, by far proven to be one of the best Dental Schools in the country. In my eight years of practice, I can count on one hand the number of patients whom were not satisfied with my service. I am sorry you felt that way Ms. brujita. In reading all your post, you seem to be disgruntled with all aspects of your life. I challenge you to post your real name so I can trully clear my name after I review your record.

Respectfully,

Dr. Jay C. Dumas

Dr. Dumas :

It has been six years since my appointments with you, but I have not forgotten what happened in your office. The LDA's website has let me know that my only recourse would have been a peer review at the time, which is now pointless. Granted, you did fix the right tooth without additional charge after the Novocaine wore off and I realized something was wrong ...but NO ONE should have to go through my experience. I made my original post to make sure that this would not be repeated.

No, not all aspects of my life disgruntle me, but I refuse to simper and pretend nothing is the matter about the things which do.
