Question: iphone and old ibook: work or no

Can I use my iBook with an iPhone?

Okay, I'm running 10.4.10, I've got iTunes 7.3, but this old iBook (14") doesn't have USB 2.0.

Will it still work? The Apple web site says I need USB 2.0, but they said that about my 2nd generation shuffle, and it works fine (charges and everything).

So, what gives? Will the iPhone work for me or no?

People have been able to use the iPhone with USB 1.1, although it certainly will take a long time to sync. I've been using one here with an old PowerMac G4 that only has USB 1.1 ports, and it sort of works: the computer only recognizes it 40%ish of the time, and it often takes a restart to get it to sync. When it does get recognized, it works just fine. I'd say to go for it, especially if you don't see yourself needing to sync it with your laptop that often. After all, you know you want one :-)

Echoing the "painfully slow" sentiment. I had (still have, but don't use as much anymore) a PowerBook G4, and I got one of the newer 30-gig iPods (about a year ago). It took forever to sync the first time I connected it. Something like eight or twelve hours.
