What kind of plant is this (hi-res here), and how does it like to be taken care of?

That's a portulaca/moss rose. It likes hot, dry conditions and full sun. In most areas, it's an annual. Don't water it very much! You can pinch off the dead flowers to encourage it to bloom more.

It's Portulaca. Sometimes called Moss Rose. It's a dry, full sun plant.

This one can also seed itself and return next year, so don't be *too* anxious to deadhead it. Rather, pinch it back hard now and let it regrow/rebloom over the remainder of the summer.
