How to merge 2 PST together?
July 25, 2007 7:33 AM   RSS feed for this thread Subscribe

Is it possible to combine several PST, merge folders and keep the structure?

I have a software called PST recovery.
It splits a PST into several 1gb parts.
Is it possible to use a software that'll combine them back into one big PST?
The internet says it's not. But what do you people think?

The only option I know of is to mount all PST and just copy stuff back to one PST, but that's extremely time consuming.

Is that PST as in Outlook PST?

If we're talking Outlook PST, then I've heard that it's unwise to have PST files larger than 1GB. Apparently large PSTs are more likely to get corrupted.
When you add more than 2 GB of data to a .pst file using either Outlook 2001 for Mac or the Microsoft Windows version of Outlook, the .pst file can become unstable or unusable

So, yeah, not exactly an answer to your question, sorry, but it seems there's a reason for breaking up a PST into 1GB chunks.

Large PSTs become quite unwieldy. In my experience, at 2 gig, they can become so large that they effectively break Outlook.

The maximum size for a PST is 2 gigs. If you do this you will just break the PST again.

With Outlook 2003 and 2007, if you creat a unicode PST file, the limit is 20 GB. MS Link. Mine is a little over 4 and I have not had any problems. I run 2007. YMMV. I opened all of mine and manually moved items. Not much fun, but now that it is over, it is easy to work with.

you can hover along at 1.8 gigs like I've foolishly been doing for about a year now ... just cull the herd occasionally when you can no longer send or receive mail.
