Question: Accessing a Movielink account from the UK?

My friend has just moved from the US to the UK. She still has a Movielink account, and would like to continue to download her movies. However, the Movielink site bounces her away, because of her UK IP. Anonymizer.com won't cut it. Any suggestions?

Try to find a friend with a proxy server in the U.S. and connect through that.

she would need shell access to a computer running unix in the usa and then use something like "ssh -L [movielink address] [login name]@[machine in usa]" from her own computer (it's a bit more complex - look at the ssh docs).

(this is what i do to access a web site within someone else's firewall - the shell account is on a machine that is visible from either side of the firewall).

presumably you can do similar things with windows using putty or similar.

you want to be googling for "http tunneling ssh" or similar.
