If a (western, ignorant, generally into indie and shoegaze and hardhouse and techno) person likes Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, what other qawwali and/or rai music might they like? Bonus points for things which may actually be available in Australia.

If you have the time, get in touch with Mohib Ahmad, who can help you out according to your taste. Did you prefer his traditional qawwali, or the more pop-inflected stuff he's done?

I don't know anything about qawwali I'm afraid, but if you mean rai as in Algerian rai, this live album is great and everyone would like it, I think.. Rachid Taha was influenced a lot by punk, you might like him too.

And possibly the solo release from Junoon's lead singer Ali Azmat, Social Circus.

There's a big difference between rai and qawwali, but you might try the Sabri Brothers (qawwali, and easily available at least in the United States.)
