MovieFilter: What movies is my friend thinking of?
I had a movie-related conversation with a friend tonight, and she stumped me with the following movie descriptions. Neither of us know which movies these memories come from. Anybody know?
Movie #1: There's a young boy who is not living with his parents. He ends up living with a man in his mid-20s or 30s who she thinks looks a little like Harry Connick Jr. They start out poor but get progressively poorer as the movie goes on. At one point they resort to eating catsup mixed with water. Later on, the man he's living with has to leave and the kid is left alone. The kid gets so hungry that he ends up having to look through magazines for pictures of food. He then cuts out the pictures of food with scissors, and eats the pieces of paper with a knife and fork.
Movie #2: Two young brothers live with their father in a big house with woods nearby. The father favors one of them so the other is constantly jealous. One of the sons was named Miles. Somehow, one of the boys falls into a pond or a lake and gets really sick. He becomes bedridden and his bed has to be surrounded by some kind of plastic sheets. This event somehow changes the relationship with his father.
