NFL: max OT?

NFL: does anyone know the record for total periods of overtime? How often does it go to double overtime?

I'm building a scoreboard app and need to know how much real estate to provide for OT periods. My dad says that they rarely get past one session of sudden death OT, due to fieldgoals.

Do you remember many games w/ double overtime?

Thanks for your help!

Only in the playoffs would a game go into double overtime. Regular season games end in a tie if there is no scoring in OT.

The 1971 AFC divisional playoff game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins went to a second overtime.

Well, here's a site with all past results. If you just want to look for ties, you can go to the standings link, and look at the end-standings for each season.

Very rare since the rules were changed in 1974. Last one was in 2002, and 1997 before that.

Here is a list of tie games since 1974.
