Pioneer receiver wont turn on after power outage

Our power was briefly interrupted, now my Pioneer receiver wont turn on.

Its a Pioneer VSX-D514. Everything else seems to have powered up just fine. I'm not all that electronically-inclined. I've unplugged it, re-plugged it back in, changed outlets, and cycled the power on the surge protector. What else is there do to? Are there fuses inside that could have blown?

There probably is a fuse next to where the power cord goes into it. It will look like a little round black cap. It may be necessary to push on it and twist it in order to get it out. It will be marked on the case with a number followed by the letter "A", that being the fuse rating in amperes.

Link to Pioneer owners manuals - help likely available inside.

Response by poster: COD-I should have mentioned that I already checked the manual. No help whatsover.

Response by poster: Steven C - There is no external fuse outlet on the rear of the receiver. I'm going to check inside.

Response by poster: Hoo boy, do I love the internet.

This solution worked!

Its not specific for my receiver, I tried to search for any Pioneer receiver since searching for my specific receiver didn't turn up anything.

Many components will have fuses inside. They're easily identified, and are the typical glass-tube type fuses. Pop one out, take it down to your local Radio Shack, and you've got a fix! Look for something like: this.

Keep in mind, though, that you're going to want to steer clear of the capacitors. Receivers hold on to a lot of juice, so please be careful!

Capacitors look like: this sorta thing.

Don't go around touching random things. Either the fuse will be readily visible, or it won't. Don't dig for it! Good luck!

From the linked site: My Pioneer Amp blew last night and I thought I was going to be up for big bucks. I read this forum then tried the ENTER and ADVANCED SURROUND buttons. Presto!

That is just astonishing! It is hard to imagine how that isn't intentional; hard to imagine how it is anything but built in obsolescence.

Wow!
