Find this quote! Please!

I'm looking for a quote I once read about irony and folk music.

It went something like "X without irony leads to folk music." It's the x I can't remember. I believe it was an article from Time magazine. My husband thinks the article was about that young man who wrote a book about being a good person and being idealistic. Remember that guy? Argghhh. It's driving me crazy. I really want to remember. It might even be "Idealism without irony leads to folk music." But I'm not sure. Can you find it? Thanks for any help!

For some reason, I think you might be thinking of the book For Common Things, by Jedediah Purdy. I hope that suggestion will help somebody, beacuse I've got no idea about the quote.

And skepticism without irony is totally unfun. It leads to folk songs.
