Birthday party location on 10/27 in Los Angeles?

I am planning my 30th birthday party for 10/27 in Los Angeles. I expect to have about 30 or so people there. I'm looking for a place, preferably in the Hollywood / Los Feliz / Silverlake area, where I can reserve a private-ish area for the entire party, or at least seats for everyone. There should be good music and dancing, and possibly even bottle service for a not-outrageous amount of money. It should not be so loud that conversation is impossible.

I would like to cover either dinner OR drinks for the entire party, so I was thinking that maybe a supper club would work - I could buy dinner and people could buy their own drinks. Or, alternatively, dinner there or somewhere else where people pay for themselves and then a club that would do an all-you-can-drink deal for my party for a fixed amount per person. Unless the place is very reputable, I would rather not just pick up the tab for everyone at the end of the night because who knows what people have charged to my tab and what the bartenders are up to.

This will be a mixed guys-and-girls together party, so a strip club wouldn't work, but if there was a burlesque type place that might work. Perez Hilton had Dita von Teese at his birthday party but I seriously doubt I could afford her at mine.

The place does not have to be trendy or fancy - if there is a dive bar that meets these requirements (obviously no bottle service there) that's fine with me.

I'm not setting a budget just yet, so let's just say it should cost less than $3k and that I would like a number closer to $1k.

A friend of mine had her b-day shindig at The Edison in downtown LA. Not only do they have live jazz, and a genuine feeling of ancient nightclub (like 50's-era ancient) but the place is gigantic, multi-leveled, there's an indoor smoking patio upstairs, and I remember that my friend had somehow "rented out" (or maybe just reserved) this semi-private area towards the back of the club that was basically a small cave.

Anyway, not many people have heard of it from what I've found - so it might also score you points for being a "find".

Oh, there's also a dress code. Not sure if it mentions that on the website, but it's something to keep in mind.

(on a separate note - I turn 29 on 10/29, so I'll be watching this thread for my own purposes as well.)

this previous ask question may inspire you.

The Hotel Figueroa in particular is good for groups of your size and is usually cheap. There isn't normally entertainment, but the hotel owner has a line on fire and belly dancers.

Tangier is in Los Feliz and sometimes has music or DJ's.

citysearch has a category of "good for groups" you may want to check out.

You can also do a venue search at the LA CVB site.

It is totally not what you asked for, but maybe give a moment's thought to Brennan's Jazz Kitchen at Downtown Disney. They have fantastic private rooms.

The main burlesque place in town is Forty Deuce. You can search LA.com for others.

Response by poster: I eventually decided to do this at Elevate Lounge downtown. The inside is exactly what we were looking for. The VIP services girl, Elle, was helpful, sweet and accomodating if occasionally a bit slow to respond to emails. I arranged to get 2 tables in the VIP area and 5 bottles.

The Edison turned out to be too expensive, as I would have needed to rent a separate area. It is also kind of loud.

We checked out J Lounge and liked the outside cabanas but not the inside part. It would be great for a summertime party with less than 20 people. The VIP services girl, Malinda, was very, very nice.

Emails to Canteen, Facade Hollywood and the Highlands were never returned.
