How to disable annoying scrolling animation on a 3 phone
July 5, 2007 2:57 PM   RSS feed for this thread Subscribe

I'm using a Sony Ericsson K610i mobile on the 3 network in the UK. On the default screen display, above 'Calls' and 'Planet 3' at the bottom of the screen, there is an extremely annoying animated right-to-left scrolling band that I would like to banish -- trouble is, I can't remember how to get rid of it and the manual won't tell me. Can anyone give me the necessary directions? Thanks.

Try using a different theme?

I think this phone is very similar to my W810i. Perhaps it's a part of the default theme wallpaper, which can be changed by switching themes as Katemonkey suggested, or it can be changed independently of the theme.

If the option hasn't been disabled in firmware, there should be a setting under Menu, Settings, General, Instant Viewer where you can turn it off. If that's not available, you may be stuck unless you can reflash the firmware or unlock the phone.

thank you, Katemonkey, Shecky and sysinfo, for your replies; unfortunately I've had no joy yet; Instant Viewer is not in the list of general settings, so it looks as if the option has been disabled.

Oh that's terrible! I bought a K610i to use here in the states (on T-Mobile) and was able to disable the Instant Viewer.

I'm a little disappointed in my purchase, though not the fault of the phone itself. The website I bought it from promised an unlocked unbranded phone but I got a 3 branded phone, with all of the trimmings. A bunch of the other features are useless to me though: the one-touch launch of Planet 3, the 3 Player... I really need to flash this firmware :T

That's really weird - All of the Three phones I've seen with Instant Viewer (and that's a lot, cos I work at a Three store!) have the option to disable. My guess is that whoever unlocked it had to mess with the firmware to do so.

They probably left the instant viewer setting on, then overwrote the menu configuration file (menu.ml) in the phone with a standard one with no instant viewer setting. So it's on, and they've removed the only way to turn it off.

You could try updating the software - The help/support section of Three.co.uk has links to the firmware update service from Sony (SEUS) but this could relock your phone.

To be honest I'd just send it back and tell the seller you want it fixed..
