Any suggestions?

I am looking for the sort of futon frame that closely resembles a pallet used by a forklift. They sit very low to the ground (~8 inches) and essentially consist of horizontal slats raised off the ground a bit. Does anyone know where I can find one, preferably in New York?

I used to see these around everywhere, but can't seem to find them now. I know they are not hard to build, and I would build one, really I would, but trust me I have nowhere to build it. So, with that option thrown out, can you suggest where I could buy one pre-manufactured? If that option falls through, I'll find someone to build it for me, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.

Ikea has them. You have to put it together, though. But it's really easy.

Buy Ikea at your own discretion.

No suggestion as to where to look, but the term is an "a-frame futon" which should aid in your search.

I have this one from West Elm. It's pretty nice.

I have the Ikea one everyone is talking about. If you can, I recommend that you buy on and then put a 2x4 slat down the middle of each section for more support, because the wood is so thin it might buckle if you do anything more than sleep on the bed.

I have two in my attic. Not sure if they're still in great condition, but last I looked (a couple years ago), they were fine.

Yours if you want, I'm in NY (the Bronx).

When I bought a futon fifteen years ago, I went down to what my NYC-native friend and guide called the "futon district", at 1st Ave. and Houston. I didn't buy a frame at the time, but I remember several futon-only stores clustered around that intersection. One of them has to carry the type of frame you're looking for.
