How do I rip just parts of a DVD to a format suitable for YouTube, and not the entire DVD?

I recently purchased a VHS to DVD burner and now I would like to take only parts or certain clips of the DVD and convert them to a format that I can upload to YouTube. Any suggestions on how do to this without ripping the entire DVD?

use videoredo. you can use it to open the vob files on the DVD and clip out the bit you want. it's not freeware but there's a free trial.

this will only work with non-encrypted dvds. if you want to take something from an encrypted dvd you'll need a different program to decrypt the dvd.

VLC videolan will do this... choose the 'wizard option'
or 'dvdx' was recommended in the vlc forums; or, dvd decrypter... SUPER ...

I use Imtoo DVD Ripper for that sort of thing. I've been pretty pleased with it, once I figured out its little quirks.

I'd go for DVD decrypter to rip the .vobs, then Womble to edit them, then (if necessary) AutoGK to make a 100 MB avi - the max file size youtube allows.
