Inexpensive Honeymoon

Suggestions for an inexpensive and fun honeymoon?

We both love to travel and have plenty of spontaneity. The less luxurious, the more fun we seem to have, which so happens to help out the checkbook. The local scene is always an encouragement as well as the unusual.

Just did my honeymoon a few weeks ago. We drove to Yellowstone and Jackson Hole. It was awesome. Mostly stayed in cheap motels.

Minnesota Boundary Waters. Motorized transportation is forbidden, so it's 1.3 million acres of quiet, peaceful lakes, trails, and streams.

Also, there's zero luxury, so it qualifies there. :)

You don't say where your home base is, unfortunately, so I have no idea if this will apply.

Williamsburg is a fun time. It's not cheesy and has some really excellent programs/reenactments/restaurants.

And it's very near to Busch Gardens which is super fun as well. Our family went for about $1500 ten years ago.

How far afield do you want to go? One of my co-workers had her honeymoon in Tunisia last September, and said it was spectacular. You can go luxury (though there isn't as much luxury infrastructure as in, say, Qatar or Oman), or you can go low-key.

Roadtrip from Denver to Las Vegas, which has lots of options for the honeymooner. If you end up in Vegas between Monday and Thursday, you can get rooms cheaper than during the weekend, too.

Could you define "inexpensive"? Could you do cheap international travel, or are you trying to keep transport expenses less than, say, $800?

Hey, I second the Boundary Waters. Got married yesterday, heading there at the end of July for the honeymoon. Caveat: this is a trip that takes lots of planning. There's a lottery system for entry dates and that lottery takes place the winter before the summer of your trip. Then there's the outfitting, etc. We've been planning for over a year (part of the fun, IMO).

Congrats and happy Honeymoon!

Response by poster: Thanks for the congrats,

santojulieta- I've been to that Busch Gardens it was kickin'. My favorite ride was the rollercoaster that looked like the dragon I think it was called the lochness.

Camping in Big Sur/Yosemite/Joshua Tree are all awfully romantic.

You could go to Deadwood, SD. Definitely not luxurious, but lots of gambling and neat sights in the area.

After we got married, we hopped in the car and drove down to Santa Cruz beach boardwalk. An amusement park on the beach has the great mix of romantic cheesey and downright fun and there seem to be quite a few of them throughout the states.

We got a hotel room with a hottub by the beach and lots of tickets and tokens. Of all our wedding pictures, my favorite is us still dressed up crammed into the photo booth.

Then again, don't have any idea what kind of sponteneity you're looking for, but get in the car and drive for a while with some really good tunes, some trivial pursuit cards in case you get bored and end up at some interesting/tacky hotel honeymoon suite.

Response by poster: extended road trips are definitely in my price range that being somewhere between $800-$1000 for about 6 days.

With this question post I will have an itinerary good for the next 50 years.

Four of us did a 8 day road trip for $1400.
KS -> UT -> NV -> AZ -> NM -> KS

So I guess you can take a cheap road trip for about $1000.
let me know if u r interested in detail of any of the places that we have visited. (email is in profile)

This is the thread that MeFi helped me earlier
