Place to stay for Coachella

Place to stay for Coachella concert? Any Palm Beach/Indio area mefites have a spare room or know how to get one so late in the game in this area?

Whoops that should have been Palm Springs.

If you're tough enough, there's plenty of BLM land around the area where camping is pretty much unregulated. When I went a couple years ago, I had the plan of just driving to one of those areas and sleeping in the bed of my pick-up but didn't follow through on it. There's so many hotels around there, something has to still be open. But, maybe not.

Nearby hotels have been totally sold out for months and months. If there's anything left, like from a last-minute cancellation, it will probably run you several hundred dollars a night. Some people have been renting big houses in the area and renting out the rooms, like a Hamptons house-share deal.

Note that sleeping in your car is illegal in CA and that the Indio police assigned to patrol the thousands of concertgoers coming in for the concert apparently do look for (and arrest people for) this.

The two on-site camping areas have just sold out, but a few people are selling their lot tickets on the Coachella message boards.

Otherwise, check out the nearby campgrounds. Joshua Tree and Salton Sea seem to be the places to go to party, and the Mecca Beach campground at Salton Sea is supposed to be gorgeous. Not all of them allow tents, though; you may need an RV.

I'm doing Lot A onsite camping. Just got the tent from L.L.Bean a month ago, woo.

Sh@t, I've slacked on camping as well. Joshua Tree appears to be sold out. Anybody have anyother ideas.
