Question: Do people still make Ragga-Jungle?

Do people still make Ragga-Jungle? Jump-up? If so, can you recommend some artists to go look for.

I used to be big into Jungle. Do people make stuff nowadays that has the same style and sound as the music coming out in the mid-nineties? I miss hearing Barrington Levy singing over crazy drum loops.

I have recently discovered BeatPort. They have a halfway decent interface for browsing music. Click on Genres, then Drum and Bass. You'll find sub-genres for both Jump-up and Ragga.

They sell DRM-free 320kbps MP3 downloads, but may or may not be less expensive than buying the physical disc from elsewhere. Depends on the release.

I was a fan of jungle and the related genres, and this stuff is in the same vein. Skream is a good starting point.

Finally, a question I can answer.

I can't help you with jump-up because it's awful just kidding sometimes i listen to aphrodite too. But as for ragga jungle, you might go for the obviously-named ragga-jungle.com. It's a forum-based site, full of an awful lot of wankers, but there is a streaming radio channel that features tracks written/remixed by forum members, as well as hourlong remixes.

Some of the forum members are actually respected figures in the modern ragga jungle scene, and actually have vinyl out. I used to hit up that site an awful lot, and I dug it.

Also, you could try digitalbombing.com - they are very much into the jungle thing. Free stuff from their crew and others shows up there regularly. The site itself is run by Freeburning, a store in Los Angeles that specializes in obnoxious hardcore ragga jungle. I'm sure if you dropped them an email, they'd be able to give you a laundry list of people to check out.

And you might also want to check out N2O records. They are probably right up your alley. They put together a record not too long back called Ragga Party Mash Up - Dancehall Panic which was a comp/remix CD, with some jungle in near the end. Good record, as was General Malice's Final Takeover. They generally have bootleg/whitelabel stuff all over the place - just ask them. I think DJ Audio1 is down with them - nice dude.

also: lajunglist.com. As you'd expect, a lot of these people are connected informally because it's sort of a small scene. Happy hunting!
