Need a clever ending to a German song

CornballFilter : I'm trying to change the words of an old German song to make a German girl laugh. (Look .... you are just going to have to trust me on this) Need help making it rhyme.

I'm sure most Germans would know the song. It's ancient. It goes like this :

Mein Vater war ein Wandersmann,
Und mir steckt's auch im Blut;
D'rum wandr' ich flott, so lang ich kann,
Und schwenke meinen Hut.

I want to change it to be about me and my dog in a funny say. So I'm thinking along the lines of -

Mein Junger war ein Wandershund,
Und mir steckt's auch im Blut;
Drum wandr' ich flott, so lang ich kann,
Und _______________

I need something that rhymes with Blut or I need some clever modification of the song which fits. German speakers - any ideas?

Here is the song in full for anyone interested. It's about the joy of being a wanderer.

The rhyming word at the end could be 'gut'.

[Well, that was all I have to show for my time in 2nd year Intensive German- Ach du Scheisse!]

... Drum wandr' ich flott, so lang ich kann,
Bis Regen bring'n uns Flut!

Words you could also substitute for Hut: Gut, Mut, Wut.

P.S. This song is well known to Anglophone scouts and campers too — as The Happy Wanderer.

Clever! I will definitely use that one as its bound to rain where we are going. We plan to do lots of walking. Got any others - maybe with the doggy angle? Feel free to change any lines. I could just roll them out one after the other....

Tut works on the end, which opens up a lot of possibilities.

Ich weiss nicht wie er's tut (oder sowas ähnliches).

How about:

... und er trägt mir den Hut.

... und schütz' ihn vor Tollwut.

... hol's Stöckchen, so ist's gut!
