Utility to tell which program is makeing sounds?

I'm looking for a utility that will indicate which program is making sound for Windows XP.

Here's why: every few minutes or so, my computer makes a 'schhht' ... pause ... 'schht' noise.

I don't know what program is making the noise! I've tried selectively running or not running software, but just when I think I've figured it out, it makes the sound again.

Is it the MS Word "Office Assistant"? I had a similar problem, and it was that damn dog scratching himself.

It could also be the search dog.

There is a previous thread about the random sound - see here for some suggestions.

Sometimes it's not a program coming from the computer itself, just your computer's speakers. Some cell phones, especially if placed near the speaker, can make a similar intermittent noise. Try turning your phone off for a while, and also listen to the speakers closely when turning the phone back on.

Each of these apps make a 'schhht' noise:

1. The Bloody Search Dog
2. Trillian (or other IM application?)
3. Skype

but the phone idea is a good one, too.

I can't imagine it being this, but it's not by any chance the "paper crumbling" sound that occurs when you empty your Recycle Bin?

If you find out let me know. I have two computers that do it.
