813-840-3045. Who owns this number and how can I get them to stop calling me and hanging up. It happens 2-3 times a day and it's not just me they are bothering (see here and here). Calling the number just returns a rapid busy signal.

No one ever leaves a message and no one ever speaks and it's driving...me.....crazy.

Have you looked into blocking that number? I think it's *60 to activate Call Block.

FWIW, you're not the only one annoyed by calls from that number. Some there say the calls from that number are coming from a loan consolidation company or an identity theft ring fronting as loan consolidation.

I visited that afsedu site, and despite what the poster says on the 800notes site, I couldn't find any evidence linking that number with that company. What did you Google to link the number to the company?

Not every phone company offers call blocking. Even if yours does, you may have to pay extra for it or you might have to dial a different code than *60.

Call your phone company and ask if they have an "annoyance call bureau" or something like it. A larger traditional phone company should have the resources and tools to help you -- if you can get them to do it.

BTW, the number you see on your caller ID may not be the actual number someone is calling from. If they're using a PBX they can probably make it anything they want.

Once you've tracked the company you think is calling you, find the better business bureau office for your location and/or the location of the offending company... fill out the standard complaint form--otherwise buy something like this.

Also, ask your phone company if you can log a complaint. I used to get 3 a.m. faxes from some company that had me confused with some other company and wouldn't take me off their list. My phone company not only blocked the number, they gave the police the information. I was told by the phone company that if more than a certain number of people complained, some kind of action would be taken by the police. (This was in Canada, I don't know what the laws are here, but it's worth asking.)

If your state has a no-call list (and assuming you are on that list), contact your state attorney general's office. They are usually the ones charged with enforcement of the no-call lists. There's usually some paperwork, but enforcing the no-call list is very popular (i.e. it's good publicity and politics)

Do they make it through your voicemail and *then* hang-up? I had a company doing this, and I changed my voicemail to say "Hi. If you are calling from XXX-XXX-XXXX, I am never ever going to take your calls, so you should just stop." And then they did.

A rapid busy signal is actually a signal that the phone is off the hook or disconnected in another way.

If you use VOIP for your phone service, your provider may offer a web interface with a Call Manager/Concierge service that allows you to easily block specific phone numbers... mine does, and I use it constantly. They can call as much as they want (and looking at my logs, they apparently do, despite the "this call has been blocked" message), but I never have to hear the phone ring or get any empty voicemails.

Ihave heard that if you record the tone that is played when a line is no longer in service on your answering machine, the machine on the other end will "hear" that and know to stop calling that number. I do not know if this works or is a urban legend type of concept.

Call your phone company and ask for their help in stopping harassing phone calls. They helped me track down the fax machine that was calling several times a night.
