Looking for a specific quote about a ship

The quote is about a ship that is sailing away, and just as the writer can no longer see it, and they wave their final farewell, they imagine that someone far away is waving hello to the same ship.

A nice metaphor about mortality and the afterlife. But I can't remember any specific phrases from the quote, I've googled everything I can think of and I can't find it... any help appreciated.
