location bar issues, firefox 2

In firefox 1.5 I could select a URL from the dropdown list in the location bar and it would act as a link and take me to that site. In firefox 2. I have to hit the GO button or hit enter after selecting the desired URL. I want the old way back! Is it possible? Oh yeah, windows xp is the system.

Don't know why but I have the exact same problem. Thanks for asking.

It works for me the way you want it to work in firefox 2, vista. I haven't changed anything pertinent that I know of...strange.

Works fine for me as well in Firefox 2 on XP. I haven't changed anything that should have affected it. I tried tweaking a couple of about:config settings to see if I could get it to do what you describe, but I couldn't. Could you have a plugin that's affecting it?

World exactly as you want it to work for me as well. Using Firefox 2, and running Windows Me. I haven't altered anything either.

The plug-ins and add-ons I have are conquery, adblock, greasemonkey, dominspector, tabbrowser preferences, and wellrounded.

Aha! I disabled all my plug-ins and the re-enabled them one by one. The culprit is tabbrowser preferences. Unfortunately, I really like this plug-in, so I might have to live with this little bug for a while. Thanks for the help, cerebus19.

This works fine for me in Firefox 2 as well. You might want to try disabling your extensions first to narrow down the problem. You can start Firefox in Safe Mode (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode) which automatically disables all extensions temporarily.

If you find that a particular extension is responsible for this bug, be sure to post on that extension's page at addons.mozilla.org so that the extension developer can fix it in the next release.

Also, do remember that you can use the up-down arrow keys along with the return bar to navigate the location bar autocomplete; you don't have to use the mouse to click on the URLs.

Such timing I have... In any case, please make sure to let the tabbrowser preferences developer know about the problem so it can get fixed in the next release of the extension.

I had the same problem, and I switched to Tab Mix Plus. It has the same functionality, but it got rid of that extremely annoying problem.

"The culprit is Tabbrowser Preferences" seems to be a fairly common experience around the Mozilla extension development community. Just sayin'.

I forgot all about tab mix plus. I used it when it first came out but switched to TP for some reason. Okay, thanks for the help, people.

FWIW, the tab browswer/tab mix plugins are notorious for causing all kinds of little quirks and bugs. Start with those next time you encounter problems.
