I'm looking for additional information about the author Jack Black

I'm looking for additional information about the author Jack Black, author of You Can't Win. More specifically, I'm interested in his time in Ingleside jail, but any material about him besides his book would be great. On a side note, information about California prisons in the early 20th century would also help.

Being that Jack Black is not his real name, I imagine that it will be hard to find much information about his personal life or identity. Anything you do find would probably be contributed by the man himself. As far as California prisons in the early 20th, somebody will be along with some good links.

I have a faint memory that Dishwasher Pete was interested in him. You could try asking him about resources -- he's a friendly guy.

Not terribly detailed, but here's a Ralph Magazine piece on him.

And apparently you can buy a PDF of the 1912 article in the LAT on his jailbreak.

That LAT article didn't have much, but it does say that his real name might be Thomas Callaghan. That's pretty neat, thanks for the tip.
