Is Music Jobs useful for getting gigs?

A friend of mine (reggae dj, sound engineer, A&R) called me about trying to get jobs through Music Jobs. She said it took her something like 30 minutes to fill out her profile, and only at the end did they hit her up for money. This gives me the willies: that sort of trick seems suspicious, and I wonder how legit or worthwhile the site really is. Has anyone had success (or otherwise) with these folks, and are they worth it?

There's a red "Subscription rates for this service" link on top of the signup page.

mkultra: I have to say that even though the link is red, I don't know if I would have noticed it without looking for it, since there are four other elements on the page that are much brighter and bolder.

In the UK, that's actually a criminal offense (yes, really). I wonder if the same applies in any US states.

I've never applied for a job through that site, but I have recruited for open positions utilizing the site (yes, in the entertainment biz). Its been a little hit or miss. I've had better luck finding good candidates through www.velvetrope.com.
