Please help identify this animal!

It's mostly out of curiousity, but a friend showed me these pictures (one, two, three), and we have no idea what it is.

My first instinct was 'a photoshop', but googling "nekocat photoshop" lead me to here, which suggests that it's a Spotted Genet.

I would guess it’s actually a spotted linsang. It would explain why the original Chinese zoo didn’t know what it was, (very rare) and how it happened to show up in China. (lives in Asia) BTW Pollomacho, people eat them. Lots of people eating lots of cute dead Viverridae. Yikes on many levels.
