Question: Are Comcast broadband resellers legit?

I'm trying to get my parents set up with high-speed cable Internet on top of their cable TV service. They're in the Tucson, AZ burbs and their cable provider is Comcast. Google searches return "broadband resellers" who offer special deals (e.g. free cable modem+free router+$19.95/mo for six months) that don't appear on Comcast's official site. Are these resellers legit? Has anybody used them? Anything I should be wary of?

[Comcast offers a combined cable/phone/internet package, but that's not available to my parents since digital phone is not yet supported where they live.]

The local Comcast number is (520) 744-1900 -- I'd call them and find out what's available specifically, since it depends on their area. Mention the offers to them, though and see if they'll match the price.

I can't attest to service from resellers; sorry.

I've used comcastoffer.com as well. No problems. Received the rebates within a couple of months.

They're all independent contractors who get paid per sign-up or something like that, they can give you a better deal than going through the normal channels. They'll usually also insist that you go through them if you have problems because they are highly motivated to keep you on as a customer, and will therefore come out and fix it when it goes out.

I'm in Tucson and I have Cox; I'm just in the edge where Comcast's service area ends and Cox begins. My service is one that wasn't advertised; it's a lower tier service that was for a while being offered at $24.95. It wouldn't hurt to call Comcast and find out what their lowest priced offers are, since this is how I ended up getting the cheaper service. There may or may not be unadvertised offers available; it doesn't hurt to ask.
