Good ways to learn Khmer?

I'm going to be spending a couple of years in Thailand, in Cambodian-speaking areas. I have people lined up to teach me Khmer in a few months, but I want to get a jump start on the language. The problem is, I haven't been able to find any good resources to study with. I'm looking for good textbooks, English-Khmer dictionaries, pronunciation guides, or CD programs. Does anyone have any experience in learning Cambodian?

"The Center for Southeast Asian Studies is pleased to announce that we now offer Foreign Language Area Scholarships for the study of Khmer."

"Study Khmer."

Long Beach, California has the largest Cambodian population in the United States, concentrated in what the city wants to call "Cambodia Town."
