Me and phones and connectivity this week...

My boss has a Samsung D500 and some generic Bluetooth dongle. In the past, she would plug in the dongle, put the phone by it and some software enabling contact-transferrage, etc. would pop up. Now, she gets a window about the DUN modem asking for a mysterious username and password and a number-to-dial.

I assume what's happened here is either the computer, the phone, or both, think that she's wanting to use the phone as a cellular modem. The computer's perfectly well connected to the 'Net, tho.. we just want to get the contacts out for putting into her new phone and sim card.

How do we get the contacts off the phone? Preferably via the computer? Note: the sim card in the D500 is too small for all her contacts, so the bulk of them are on the phone's own memory. We can use a sim card reader for the contacts on the card.

I have a generic BT dongle, and an internal NIC with BT support. There is software associated with both of those. There is also some setup screens (look in Control Panel, mine's called BT Configuration) where you can configure the local and client services. Basically, you should be able to disable the modem client on the computer (just so that it doesn't pop up and bother you) and look in to the settings for the "contact-transferrage" (mine's called PIM Item Transfer). The PIM transfer settings also include a "Secure Transfer" option that might try asking for a pin if it's enabled.
