Is there great parking near AT&T park?

Is there a super secret low or no cost parking alternative to the stadium lots at AT&T park?

I'm going to tomorrow night's Giants game and would love a place to park that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and that isn't miles away.

I usually park for free around intersection at 16th St & 3rd St. The free part is awesome, but the walk is killer. I'll be running a little late getting to the game after work and would rather avoid the hike; however, I refuse to pay $30 for the privilege.

I know there is a MUNI stop right by the ballpark, but alas, I don't work in the city and there isn't a stop anywhere near my home or office. And, again, time is of the essence.

Sure, it's a long shot, but I can't help but dream. Is there a great, cheaper place to park either around the ballpark or within a few MUNI stops thereof?

Why can't you take the new T line which runs up 3rd st?

Here's what we do: drive to Van Ness & Market; park on Page. Enter the Van Ness Muni station. Enjoy the spectacle of increasing numbers of Orange People as the train gets closer to Embarcadero; arrive at the park, get out, enjoy game.

(We do this because the worst part of our post-game getting-home-by-public-transit entails taking the underground and then getting out and waiting for a bus; we park where we'd normally have to wait for said bus.)

What we'll probably do in future: drive to the other side of Portrero hill (we live on the west side); park along 3rd, or at a cross street; take the T-Third to the park.

You can do the same, parking at 16th & 3rd. Be sure to buy a return Muni ticket (there's a booth outside the park, near the will-call windows).

Try Craigslist, and look for season ticket holders that are selling their parking passes. You can also find these at the game if you approach people as they leave the Cal-train station, or near the lot itself (though you obviously need a confederate to drive your car around while you hunt for a pass...)

I used to park for free on townsend between 5th and 7th (parallel the train).

I'm not sure that's a much shorter walk than 3rd and 16th.

You could bring a bike and have the SFBC park it for you at the game or lock it up across the street.

MrFongGoesToLunch, I live in the Outer Richmond and will be swinging by my apartment to pick up my lady before heading out to the park.

Thanks to all who've answered so far. The T-Third sounds promising.

There's an alley/private lot right near the park that takes $20 to park there.
