Question: Cheap Mac Video Capture Solution

I'm looking for a cheap device to import VHS video onto my MacBook. I've looked at the Canopus ADVC55 but it seems like overkill for what I need - I just want to turn my old home movies into DVDs.

If you already have a DV camera, you may be able to use it as the analog input. Most Sony cameras have a software (read: menu) switch that changes the AV plug from Out to In, and then it's just DV into the MacBook via firewire.

If you don't mind looking on eBay, try to find the Sony DA1 or DA2. Those are stand-alone analog->DV adapters. You can sometimes find them for less than $100.

Look into Elgato's EyeTV, there are a bunch of different models and they're relatively inexpensive. Bonus? You'll turn your MacBook into a TiVo! My boyfriend has the EyeTV 200 and loves it.

I asked this exact question five days ago, and I ended going with the ADVC110's bigger brother, the 300. It's sweet.
