How can I modify Firefox so that when I am viewing an image in its own window it is centred and appears on a black background?

I am aware that I could probably do this by learning how to write Greasemonkey scripts but I'm hoping that someone has already produced a solution. Launching an external viewer would also sort of work but seems a bit kludgy to me and I'd like to avoid it if possible.

Thanks for the answers so far. Interestingly, WCityMike's second link reveals that Opera is easily modified to do exactly what I want (images are automatically centred vertically and horizontally and background color can be changed by editing the image.css file). This might tempt me into giving it another try.
