Athletic cup question from the mom

Does anyone here have experience wearing the Nutty Buddy cup?

My son needs one for martial arts and has hated wearing the conventional style ones we've found. The Nutty Buddy sounds like it would be more comfortable, but it's a pretty expensive investment, involving the cup plus compression shorts plus a supporter, so I'm reluctant to buy without some unbiased input.
He was always one of those sensitive kids - you know, socks, tags in shirts, seams etc, so this has been a pretty big obstacle for him, although he's much more tolerant now of being uncomfortable. I can't imagine wearing a big piece of plastic wedged between my legs, so I have sympathy for him, and don't want to tell him to "just get over it", if there is an alternative. On the other hand, if you know of another more comfortable "system" I'd be glad to hear about it. Even if it does not offer as much protection as the NB, anything would be better than what he is wearing now (nothing).

I haven't worn one, but this cup was discussed on the blue. The video is perhaps the greatest product test video ever and with sizes like "Mongo," "The Hog," "The Boss," and "The Hammer," it's sure to boost the wearer's self esteem.

Response by poster: I should have mentioned that the blue is where we first became aquainted with the NB - and yes, the video is pretty amazing. I actually placed an order for one in December, and then never heard anything from the company. I finally got a form reply to my email, saying they were backordered. Then last month got an email saying they were available again (they hadn't processed my order), this time, bundled with the compression shorts and supporter.

Ok, I was told this by a Shaolin Kempo Sensei, who in turn got it from her husband. Husband was the kind of guy who would "forget" to take off his cup between a martial arts workout and a nite clubbing (cause after all a cup looks more impressive than what most men have going on).

The secret to comfortably wearing an athletic cup is to wear it over a pair of briefs *and* a pair of bikini briefs. With this advice, even the $10 off the rack cup from Sports Authority should pose no problem. No complaints from my little guy, who refuses to wear wool sweaters because they itch.
